Jenson Brooksby comments on ousting Benoit Paire in Atlanta opener

American tennis star Jenson Brooksby is happy to have kicked off his summer hard court campaign with a dominant victory at the Atlanta Open. 

On Tuesday, Brooksby dismantled France's Benoit Paire 6-3 6-1 to reach the Atlanta last-16.

Brooksby is playing his first tournament since suffering a third round defeat at Wimbledon. 

"It feels really nice to be back in the States," Brooksby said, per the ATP website. "Always after two, three weeks off of matches it feels good to get a win under your belt and I thought that was a really solid match to start and I've been training really well too, so I'm excited with the path I'm on right now."

Brooksby aims a big summer

Last year, Brooksby reached the Citi Open semifinal in Washington and also reached his first Grand Slam last-16 at the US Open. 

Now, 21-year-old Brooksby is aiming to clinch some strong results during the North American hard court swing and potentially win his first ATP title in the next couple of weeks. 

"I had a really good hard-court season last year too and we learned things through the clay and grass this year," Brooksby said. "I'm excited to be back on hard, definitely [being] back in the States and I think I can even do much better than last year."

What is positive for Brooksby is the fact that he has made a convincing start to his summer hard court campaign. 

Brooksby came out firing versus Paire, opening an early 3-0 lead. 

One break of serve was enough for Brooksby to win the first set as he served out for the opening set in the ninth game. 

Paire had his first break point of the match in the ninth game when Brooksby was serving for the first set, but the Frenchman failed to realize.

After winning the first set, Brooksby broke Paire three times in the second set to complete a dominant straight-set victory and to set up a last-16 meeting versus Mackenzie McDonald-
