Greg Norman has not been happy with what he considers a "small snub" by the Royal & Ancient, the institution that organizes the British Open and governs golf outside of America. The Australian, winner of the British major in 1986 and 1993, has not been invited to the celebrations for the 150th edition, which takes place from the 14th to the 17th of this month in the Scottish field of St. Andrews, the cradle of this sport.

Greg Norman, statements

"I'm disappointed. I believed that the R & A would be above this given his position in the world of golf, ”Norman said in statements collected by Golf Digest. Behind the gesture of this institution is Norman's position as head of the LIV Invitational Series, the new circuit financed with Saudi money that challenges the traditional scheme of the PGA and DP World Tour. “The 150th edition of The Open is a very important moment for golf and we want to ensure that the focus is on celebrating the tournament and its legacy. Unfortunately we do not believe that this would be the case if Greg (Norman) comes, assured a note issued by the organization this Saturday.

"It's a shame. All I have done has been to promote this sport and make it grow globally, on and off the field, for decades”, lamented Norman, whose exemption to play the tournament as a former champion expired years ago, a benefit that only is maintained up to 60 years. The battle for the world golf market for now only leaves sequels at the managerial level in the majors, since none of them has for now prohibited the presence of the insurgents in and from Thursday they will be in St. Andrews Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau and company.

Gregory John Norman, aka Greg (Mount Isa, February 10, 1955), is an Australian golfer and entrepreneur nicknamed The White Shark or simply The Shark. He has proved to be one of the most loved golfers by the public, both for his particular aggressive playing style and for his charismatic attitudes and the same look inspired by a veiled transgressive non-conformism. He is considered to be one of the most accomplished golfers of the 1980s and 1990s, even though he hasn't achieved all the milestones that seemed within his reach. Animated by a passion for golf since he was a teenager, he began to achieve significant results in the international field already in the second half of the seventies.
