Rafael Nadal reportedly set to miss Wimbledon

Nadal, who turned 36 this week, has been battling chronic foot pain in recent weeks but still he has managed to reach the French Open final. 

In Paris, Nadal hinted several times he might be playing his final French Open. 

Last year, Nadal skipped almost the entire second half of the 2021 season and he didn't play Wimbledon. 

Now, Nadal seems to be ready to skip Wimbledon for the second year in a row. 

Nadal last played at Wimbledon in 2019, when he reached the semifinal before losing to Roger Federer. 

Wimbledon was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic. 

Nadal hampered by a chronic foot issue 

After hinting several times that he might be playing his final French Open, Nadal paused retirement talks by stating that he would do his best to return to Roland Garros next year. 

"I am old enough to not hide things or come here to say a thing that I don't believe," Nadal added. "I don't know what can happen. I think, as I said before, I'm going to be playing this tournament because we are doing the things to be ready to play this tournament, but I don't know what's going to happen after here. I have what I have in the foot, so if we are not able to find an improvement or small solution to that, then it's becoming super difficult for me. So that's it. I am just enjoying every day that I have the chance to be here, and without thinking much about what can happen in the future. Of course, I'm going to keep fighting to find a solution, but for the moment we haven't [got one]."

It remains to be seen when will Nadal play again after his French Open campaign finishes.
