Two days after turning 36, Rafael Nadal secured his 14th Roland Garros title. The greatest clay-courter of all time restored the order at his beloved Major after losing the title to Novak Djokovic a year ago. Nadal did not expect much from this year's Roland Garros campaign after a constant struggle with his left foot. He barely finished the match against Denis Shapovalov three weeks ago, and many believed he would not be able to go all the way in Paris. Rafa proved them all wrong, beating four top-10 players in a row and lifting the 22nd Major crown that puts him even further away from Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.

Nadal scored a 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 triumph in the title clash against Casper Ruud, beating the Norwegian in two hours and 18 minutes and scoring the 112th Parisian win from 115 encounters! It was not the most excellent Major final by any means, but Rafa was still very emotional after the match, surviving treatments on his foot and defeating seven rivals to emerge at the top and write history books. In his trophy presentation speech, Nadal rejected the retirement talks, saying he does not know what the future brings but repeating he is there to fight.

Rafael Nadal will try everything to extend his career.

Casper gave his best in the first Major final, but Rafa proved too strong in his kingdom. The Spaniard took over half of the return points and turned them into eight breaks from 16 opportunities. Nadal had 37 winners and 18 unforced errors, and Ruud stood on a 16-26 ratio, which was insufficient to stay in contention. Rafa pushed the rival's backhand to the limits and toppled him in the more advanced rallies with five strokes or more. Casper had nothing left in the tank in the third set, and Rafa sealed the deal with a backhand down the line winner in the sixth game to start a massive celebration.

"Things that have happened to me this year are incredible. It's hard for me to describe the feelings I have. I never believed I would be standing here at 36 and playing competitive tennis on the most important court of my career. It means a lot to me. I do not know what the future brings, but I will keep fighting," Rafael Nadal said.
