British tennis star Cameron Norrie couldn't hide his happiness after winning Lyon as he was thrilled to add a clay title to his collection.

On Saturday, first-seeded Norrie defeated Slovakia's Alex Molcan 6-3 6-7 (3) 6-1 in the Lyon final.

A year ago, Norrie fell just short of winning Lyon as he was beaten in the final by Stefanos Tsitsipas.

This year, Norrie returned to Lyon and it was the tournament where he captured his first clay title.

“It is my first title on the clay so it means a lot to me,” Norrie said in his on-court interview, per the ATP website. “I can’t be happier with how I handled everything this week. This one feels the best so far. I don’t know why, it is just so special and I couldn’t be happier and am really speechless right now. It was an incredible atmosphere. Thanks to everyone for coming out.

“I had chances to close the matches in straight sets this week and get it done easier than usual and it didn’t go that way and I was able to let that go and respond. In the third set I moved really well and it is nice to get over the line.”

Norrie overcame Molcan in three sets

Norrie got off to a fast start, breaking Molcan in the first and fifth games for an early 4-1 lead.

Molcan got one break back in the sixth game to reduce the deficit to 4-2 but Norrie earned his third break of the first set in the ninth game when the Slovak was serving to stay in the opener.

After losing the first set, Molcan started the second set with a break but got broken back in the second game.

Norrie had a chance to seal a straight-set win but he failed to convert any of his two match points in the 10th game on Molcan's serve.

Norrie paid the price for not realizing his two match points as Molcan dominated the second set tie-break to force a decider.

Fortunately for Norrie, he was able to put the second set behind him as he broke Molcan three times in the third set to seal a three-set win.
