Record 21-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal sent a message to Iga Swiatek during the Australian Open and that motivated the Pole to hit the practice court and work extremely hard.
Swiatek, ranked at No. 9 in the world, enjoyed a strong run at the Australian Open but in the end failed to win the title.
Swiatek, the 2020 French Open champion, made the Australian Open semifinal before losing to Danielle Collins.
Swiatek stood no chance in the semifinal as Collins claimed a 6-4 6-1 win to make her maiden Grand Slam final.
"I just felt really motivated. The day after I lost I wanted to come back on court and work harder. I think Rafa's message had a lot to do with that;" Swiatek said, per Reem Abulleil.

Swiatek entered the match as the slight favorite but it was Collins that controlled the match from the beginning until the end.
After the match, Swiatek admitted she was impressed by Collins' power.
"I think that was the fastest ball I have ever played against on a match…. It seemed for her that it wasn't even risky because she was playing it with control. So I am impressed and huge respect to her," Swiatek said after the loss. "I'm gonna for sure be watching [the final] and learning."
Swiatek won a total of five games against Collins but said she felt no regrets because she did her best against the American.
"I tried to find solutions, but I can assume what feelings she had today on court, because I have that feeling sometimes. It's hard to stop an opponent when they are playing like that," Swiatek added. “I'm not even feeling any regrets because I did the best I could today."
Meanwhile, Swiatek returned to action this week and claimed a win over Daria Kasatkina in the Dubai first round.
