Coach Ricardo Piatti is happy with the progress Jannik Sinner has been making as he expects the Italian will be where he wants to be in about a year or a year and a half.
Sinner, 20, is one of the most promising and talented players on the Tour and many expect from him to win a Grand Slam and become a world No. 1 one day.
Sinner has captured four ATP titles already and he is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 14 in the world.
“Sinner is not yet in the top-5 of ATP players. But I believe in about a year and a half he will be where he wants to be. He is predestined to work, he still has a lot of room for improvement and my job is to work /with him) on those areas,” Piatti said, per We Love Tennis.
Sinner won the Sofia titleThis past Sunday, No. 1 seed Sinner saw off second-seeded Gael Monfils 6-3 6-4 to defend his Sofia title.
"The level was high today,” Sinner said in his on-court interview. “We had long, long rallies and it was physical as well. I am happy to be the winner here in Sofia again. I think it is a very nice tournament. It was the best match [I have played this week] because I had to.”
Sinner now leads the head-to-head against Monfils 3-1.
“It is never easy playing against Gael, we’ve had many tough matches,” Sinner added. “I think in the crucial moments I was a bit luckier than him, which helped me a lot.”
Sinner showed his respect for Monfils following the final.
"What Monfils has done in his career is amazing. He has played a lot of big matches and still moves very well on the court. He's extremely talented and he's a great guy. We have a good relationship, sometimes we joke together in the locker room," Sinner said of Monfils[I have played this week] because I had to.”
