Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas claimed a straight-set win over rising star Alex de Minaur at the Barcelona Open and afterward showed his class as he spoke positively of the Australian.
Tsitsipas, seeded at No. 2, overcame No. 14 seed de Minaur in two sets 7-5 6-3 to reach the Barcelona quarterfinal for the second time in his career.
Both players firmly held on to their serve until the 12th game of the first set, when Tsitsipas realized his second break point -- which at the same time was his second set point -- to win a tight opener.
Losing a tight first set didn't affect de Minaur at the start of the second set as he broke Tsitsipas in the opening game to take an early lead.
Unfortunately for de Minaur, his lead was short-lived as Tsitsipas broke back in the fourth game to level the set at two games apiece.
Tsitsipas earned his second break of the set in the eighth game, before serving out for the match in the following game.
"I was playing close to the lines so that was definitely difficult," Tsitsipas said. "He’s a good competitor; he always puts out his best game. I think running and getting an extra ball back is actually his biggest strength so that’s what makes him very difficult to play against."
Tsitsipas plays next Felix Auger-AliassimeTsitsipas is now set to have another tough task as next up for him will be 10th-seeded Auger-Aliassime.
Canadian Auger-Aliassime overcame fellow compatriot Denis Shapovalov in straight sets to set the Tsitsipas clash.
"I’ve never played him on clay," Tsitsipas said of Auger-Aliassime. "He’s someone that has done very well in recent years and [he's] playing at the top of his form right now. I’m looking forward to the next battle, to the next difficulty that’s set, and can’t wait to compete against Felix."
