Former British Fed Cup Team Captain Judy Murray has explained which challenges Wimbledon was facing and why it was hard for them to postpone the event and find a new date.
On Wednesday, the ATP and WTA further extended the tours suspension through to July 13 as Wimbledon was cancelled for the first time since 1945.
The AELTC held a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the faith of Wimbledon and what was widely expected to be announced indeed happened as the tournament got cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak.
"Well I think the calendar is already starting to become a little more congested towards the end of the year because everybody who has had tournaments cancelled is fighting for spaces to try to complete, I suppose, the season as best as best as they can," Murray told BBC Breakfast.
"I think one of the big challenges for Wimbledon is that it's played on grass, which is not an artificial surface and also the further that you go on in the year or down in the calendar you have less light and of course Wimbledon has just the two covered courts. I think there is big challenges for it in terms of postponing it.
"I think, you know, massive amounts of meetings going on between the representatives of the ATP and the WTA and the ITF who all control the tennis calendar but it's a bit of a bun fight I think, people trying to get a space to be able to fulfill their event but it's just not going to be possible for everybody."
