Gstaad Tournament Director Jean-Francois Collet still holds hope that the tennis season will resume and that they won't have to cancel this year's edition of the Swiss ATP 250 clay event.

Gstaad is one several ATP clay events that take place in the weeks after Wimbledon as this year's Gstaad edition is scheduled to take place from July 20-26.

This week, the ATP and WTA further extended the suspension of the men's and women's professional tours until at least July 13 due to the coronavirus outbreak.

"We can always hope for a miracle. But we don't just need improvement in Switzerland. There needs to be an overall improvement," Collet told Le Matin, as revealed on We Love Tennis France.

Last week, the AELTC announced they would hold a meeting this week to discuss the faith of Wimbledon and from that moment it was widely expected that The Championships would get called off for the first time since 1945.

On Wednesday, the Wimbledon organizers and the representatives of the ATP, WTA and ITF discussed the faith of Wimbledon and they agreed to cancel The Championships and call off the grass season.

Gstaad has been a regular part of the ATP calendar for over 50 years now as the event has been held regularly since its inaugural edition in 1968.

Roger Federer, a record 20-time Grand Slam champion, claimed his lone Gstaad title in 2004 after beating Igor Andreev in the final.

Last year, rising Italian star Matteo Berrettini beat Roberto Bautista Agut in the final to lift his maiden ATP title in Gstaad.
