Spain's Rafael Nadal and Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia will be going head-to-head for the fourth time in their respective careers when they meet at the ATP Cup in Perth on Saturday.
Nadal, 33, humiliated 27-year-old Basilashvili on two occasions but the Georgian put up a solid effort against the world No. 1 in their lone meeting on a non-clay surface.
World No. 26 Basilashvili stood no chance against Nadal on clay as the record 12-time French Open champion claimed a 6-0 6-1 6-0 win at Roland Garros three years ago and also beat the Georgian 6-1 6-0 at the Rome Masters last year.
Their lone meeting on a non-clay surface came at the US Open in 2018, where three-time ATP champion Basilashvili fought well and hard but ultimately fell short as the Spaniard won 6-3 6-3 6-7 (6) 6-4.
Basilashvili, who reached a career-high ranking of No. 16 in the world in last year, will be aiming to kick off his 2020 season on the best possible way and shock the 19-time Grand Slam champion.
The fact that the two will clash on a hard surface should make it a bit easier for Basilashvili in his bid to shock Nadal but still it would be extremely hard to see the Spaniard failing to deliver against the Georgian and starting his season with a loss.
