Michael Venus recently confirmed he has split with long term partner Raven Klaasen from South Africa. The two lost the Nitto ATP Finals to the French pairing of Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut 6-3 6-4.
Next year he will team up with Australia's John Peers. "We've had some amazing memories and we've both learnt a lot. I've especially learnt a lot from Raven and also gained a good friend off the court," Venus said of Klaasen.
He further added, "He's a special person and we worked well together on court and had some great results. It was a very tough decision and something thought over for a little while, but you take the good with the bad and I'll definitely take all of the positives from it and look forward to the future."
It has been 2 years since the pair have been playing together and the Kiwi felt it was time for a change. "The amount of time we spend together throughout the year, there are always going to be good weeks and bad weeks," Venus said. "I'm sure Raven has had some thoughts throughout the time about whether this is right or not, you go through some good and bad patches.”
"When the opportunity arose, I tossed and turned about it, it's a big decision, you go from something trusted that you know and something that's working. But the potential upside was something that got me a bit excited and it was something I wanted to explore."
Speaking ahead of his partnership with Peers, Venus added, “We had a bit of a discussion over that one and I've managed to talk him into coming in to playing Auckland. I'm really excited that we'll be able to start our partnership off there in Auckland at the beginning of next year."
