With their brand holding a two match lead over Raw and SmackDown, NXT got the Allstate Arena stage all to themselves at Survivor Series on Sun., Nov. 24. And as Adam Cole entered to defend his NXT championship against Pete Dunne, announcers Michael Cole (replacing Mauro Ranallo, who we were told blew out his voice last night), Nigel McGuinness & Beth Phoenix focused on the damage Cole took in the main event at TakeOver: WarGames last night.
Dunne focused on it too, targeting the champ’s taped midsection - and the arm injured by Matt Riddle weeks ago. The Bruiserweight wasn’t at 100% either, however. The former UK champ had his left knee taped from damage he took in the #1 contender Triple Threat at TakeOver. Even when Cole wasn’t targeting it, every landing reaggravated the injury.
That was story as these two rivals trade big shots, including Dunne kicking out of Cole’s Last Shot running knee...

After even more false finishes, the toll was starting to show on both men. But it didn’t stop Cole from hitting Panama Sunrise on the apron.

That left both men down on the outside. The champ slide in first, and caught the challenger with a kick when he made it back in at 9.
Dunne kicked out, and managed to snap the champ’s fingers to set-up another Bitter End. But Cole turned that into another Panama Sunrise, then hit the knee to the back of the Bruiserweight’s head. It was a big win, another great match, and the capper on a star-making few weeks for a man who was already a pretty big deal for a lot of us.
BOOM.
