WWE leaned hard into the MYSTERY PARTNER angle for the men’s War Games match at the pay-per-view of the same name tonight (Sat., Nov. 23, 2019) in Rosemont, Illinois. Tommaso Ciampa tweeted a teaser early in the day, making clear it was only a possibility the person the squad — also comprised of Keith Lee and Dominik Dijakovic — talked to about the fourth spot opposite Undisputed Era would even show up.
“If he decides to show up, he’s in,” Ciampa tweeted. “If he doesn’t, nothing changes.”
The match got underway without a fourth member showing up to make clear there even would be a fourth member. It was played by commentary like they could work the entire match at a disadvantage. Naturally, each member of both teams got into the match before the big reveal of the MYSTERY PARTNER.

This comes not long after Triple H tried to recruit Owens to return to NXT. Undisputed Era, by the way, viciously attacked him not long after. It was confusing a bit then, but is maybe less so now.
“Welcome back,” the fans chanted at him.
“Welcome back indeed,” Mauro Ranallo remarked on commentary.
