Swiss tennis star Stan Wawrinka will be leaving the French Open in positive spirits despite a quarterfinal loss suffered against his third-seeded good friend Roger Federer 7-6 (4) 4-6 7-6 (5) 6-4.

Many questioned how much was left in Wawrinka after a five-minute and nine-hour round-of-16 thriller against No. 6 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, but the former world No. 3 performed at a good level against Federer but still failed to get the win.

"I really never had a chance to take the lead. He was more aggressive," Wawrinka admitted post-match, per Inside Tennis Twitter.

Wawrinka also acknowledged that it was a great match between him and Federer but added that both of them can play better as he also revealed that he is planning to watch a semi-final showdown between his good friend and Rafael Nadal.

Wawrinka's 2018 Roland Garros campaign also included wins over Slovakia's Jozef Kovalik, rising Chilean star Christian Garin and 2017 Nitto ATP Finals champion Grigor Dimitrov.

"For me, what's the most positive things is what happen physically also, to have played three days in a row with five hours, my longest match in my career, and still be able to play great tennis today, more than three hours," Wawrinka said post-match, per Tennis Now Twitter.
