In an interview to AS, Rafael Nadal commented on current situation of men's tennis. "When you lose attitude, you lose tennis. The sports cannot be split by the emotional status of a person. I played very well all the time. Last year I ended up as a world No. 2 completing only seven tournaments. For me, the main thing was to recover physically. Then you need to be humble and able to know that you go play against Dominic Thiem in Barcelona and you are not the favourite or that in Madrid, due to altitude, it may not go well. It was not a bad tournament, for me it as a good one because I saw myself competitive."
Asked if the competition is tougher on clay now with Novak Djokovic, Dominic Thiem, Stefanos Tsitsipas and others, Nadal replied: "I always saw everything very difficult. Djokovic has been very good for many years. Dominic Thiem reached at least the semifinals in the last three years... You have to accept those things. You always have complicated opponents. None of the guys who play now went through easy times on this aspect."
On his yellow outfit in Paris, Nadal added: "I like happier colours than the darker ones because I think that life with happiness is better. It's important to have people next to you who help you to be happier. I always liked the happy colours. A classic combination but a classic one. I am not a big fan of dark colours."
