Novak Djokovic admits signing up for ATP Tokyo was tactic move

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic has admitted that his decision to play the Japan Open in Tokyo this year was largely made because of the fact that the 2020 Olympics will be held in the Japanese capital next year.

The 32-year-old is already one of the most successful and accomplished tennis players ever as he is strongly bidding to once be considered the greatest ever but he has yet to win a gold Olympic title. 

The Serb's list of accolades includes 15 Grand Slam titles, a Career Grand Slam, a Calendar Grand Slam, as well as a Davis Cup title. 

"I’ve chosen to play in Tokyo in order to feel the courts, the conditions, the city. Olympics are one of the most important events, especially in this phase of my career. I would love to win the gold medal, it would be the cherry on the top," Djokovic exclusively told Sport Klub, as revealed by Sasa Ozmo. 

Djokovic won the bronze medal at Beijing medal at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 -- lost the bronze medal match at the 2012 London Olympics, while he picked up a disappointing first-round exit at the last Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
