Marin Cilic was one of the players who saw his seed get higher due to the particular Wimbledon seeding formula. The Croatian player said: "The thing is it’s been on for years and they do use points from previous events, from previous years. So in my own case, it helped me be in the group of 13-16. I moved from 17 into that group, which definitely helps out in avoiding higher seeds until the fourth round so in my own case it’s good. It’s been a tradition here and it’s difficult to say, you have positives and negatives about it. It’s definitely not as it was in the past when you have the clay courters and they’re ranked maybe top-10 and they’re having difficulty to go through one or two rounds. Now, courts are much more playable, you can stay from the baseline, the bounce is really nice almost like on the hard courts, there aren’t many bad bounces. Everyone is playing well, everyone is hitting well. You see the top-32 guys, they all play well on hard courts, clay, it doesn’t matter so from that case I agree it could just stay the way it is in the rankings."

Rafael Nadal complained about the formula as he will be seeded third and Roger Federer second. Greg Rusedski added: "It’s a little bit tricky because whether you’re Federer or whether you’re Djokovic, you don’t want Rafa in your semis, to be honest. So, you know, he could play Novak in the semis as they did last year which was one of the greatest matches ever. Thank goodness they’ve changed the rule because I thought that was a little bit of a shambles when the roof was closed the next day because it’s an outdoor event. Yes, the roof is there and on the day you should have to finish it if you can but if you don’t, it’s an outdoor tournament so they should play outdoors. ‘Thank goodness they changed that rule because that just played into Novak’s hands a little bit more than Rafa’s. Those were the rules and if I was Novak, I would have done that exact same thing myself, I would have asked for the match indoors because it would have been an advantage so it was a smart thing for him to do."
