Nick Kyrgios thinks that Tomic should be included amongst the greatest players from Queensland, even if Darren Cahill disagreed.
Darren Cahill tweeted a list of the greatest players originating from Queensland, a state in the eastern part of Australia. He described the list to be “fair” and the players featured in it are Rod Laver, Roy Emerson, Ashleigh Barty, Pat Rafter, Sam Stosur, Mal Anderson, Ken Fletcher, Mal Anderson, Ross Case, Geoff Masters, Ashley Cooper, and Wendy Turnbull. The Australian coach also added two left-handed players that are close to his heart in the likes of Scott Draper and Mark Kratzmann.
Cahill’s tweet awoke reactions from the controversial Nick Kyrgios and from his close friend, Kokkinakis. Thanasi suggested that Bernard Tomic should have been included on the list, but Cahill showed his disapproval with a funny comment: “account suspended”.
Nick Kyrgios supported his friend’s claim by sustaining that Tomic is a much better player than Draper was: “Actually hilarious because Tomic is 8x the player of Draper”. The friendship between Nick and Bernard is well-known, as well as their bad boys status. However, the Australian has a small point here as Draper’s highest career ranking was 42 while Tomic touched the 17th position in the ATP World Tour in 2016. On the other hand, Bernard has been struggling for a long time to find his form. His latest notable achievement was winning the Chengdu Open back in September 2018.
The interesting fact in this whole story is that Tomic was not even born in Queensland, but in Stuttgart, Germany.
