German tennis player Jan-Lennard Struff didn't hide his happiness after finally winning a match on the grass courts of Halle.
The German handed a straight-set defeat to Serb Laslo Djere 6-4 6-4 on Tuesday to break his Halle "curse."
Prior to this year's Halle edition, the 29-year-old had zero wins and nine losses at the tournament.
Struff tried to make the Halle main draw in 2009, 2010 and 2012 but every time got beaten in the qualifying first round.
The German then picked up six consecutive first round exits at the tournament between 2013 and 2018.
"Halle is my home tournament. I was here as a child and watched. Then I played six times before, but could not win a match. I am so glad that this curse is now over. Now I can see how far this year is going," Struff said post-match, per Tennis TourTalk.
Yet, Struff's campaign in Hale didn't last long as he was beaten in his following match.
The German was a set away from beating No. 2 seed Karen Khachanov as the Russian claimed a 6-3 3-6 6-4.
