Coach Nicolas Massu: Dominic Thiem prepared to play Rafael Nadal

Coach Nicolas Massu didn't hide his happiness after pupil Dominic Thiem edged out world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in a five-set thriller 6-2 3-6 7-5 5-7 7-5 to progress into his second consecutive French Open final. 

The French Open semifinal match between Thiem and Djokovic featured three rain delays as the two started their match on Friday but ended it on Saturday afternoon. 

Djokovic was threatening to make a huge comeback as Thiem blew two consecutive match points on his serve in the ninth game of the fifth set but the Austrian kept his focus as he broke the Serb in the 12th game to seal the win in over four hours of play.

"To beat the world No. 1 in the fifth set of a Grand Slam semifinal is an extraordinary feeling for him as a player and for me as a coach," Massu said, per Tennis Magazine Twitter. 

Thiem will be bidding to win his maiden Grand Slam title, in his first Grand Slam tournament with coach Massu, when he meets record 11-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal on Sunday. 

Massu insisted Thiem will be ready Nadal despite a physically and mentally tough semifinal as he said, per Ricky Dimon: "When you are in the tennis world, you have to be prepared for anything.

"We are prepared to play tomorrow. We accept that... Sometimes the things are not the way you want. But you have to do your best."
