French tennis star Benoit Paire blasted the ATP for having to play his Antalya Open round-of-16 match in the extreme heat conditions.
Paire, seeded at No. 1, couldn't overcome the difficult playing conditions as he got edged out by world No. 193 Viktor Troicki 7-6 (4) 7-6 (5).
The match started at 13:30 pm local time and lasted an hour and 40 minutes.
The Antalya Open could disappear from the calendar after only three years of existence as it has struggled to lure the big players and the crowd to the tournament.
Shortly after the match, the Frenchman tweeted that playing in those conditions was "dangerous for the players, the four spectators, the referee, the ball kids and my coach."
Qualifier Troicki broke world No. 32 Paire in the opening game of the match but the Frenchman broke back the Serb in the eighth game to force a tie-break.
The two players were at 4-4 in the tie-break before Troicki won three points in a row to win the opener.
Troicki then recovered from an early second-set break before he realized his second match point in the tie-break to seal a quarterfinal ticket.
