West Ham fan vs Tottenham’s Son Heung-min
As reported in the Guardian on Thursday, a West Ham fan has been fined for racially abusing Tottenham’s Son Heung-min.
The incident stems back to West Ham’s League Cup match against Spurs at the London Stadium back in October.
Tottenham won that cup tie 3-1, with Son scoring twice in the victory.
The authorities reacted to a complaint from one Hammers fan about the racial abuse aimed at Son from another Irons supporter.
Son Heung-min called ‘DVD’
The unnamed West Ham fan has since pleaded guilty to the racially aggravated offence.
The heart of the offence was the West Ham fan calling South Korean star Son “DVD”.
DVD is a well-known racial slur which is aimed at Asians, and Son has previously been targeted with that term before.

Indeed, this isn’t the first time a West Ham fan has adopted the slur against the Spurs forward.
West Ham fan fined £184
In total, the West Ham fan was fined £184 by the court, plus another £110 in costs.
While the court didn’t issue the fan with a football banning order, West Ham have confirmed the supporter is currently barred from attending matches.
The club have also said, however, the should the fan complete an educational course that decision may be reviewed.
