In his newly-published book "Roger Federer: The Biography", journalist Rene Stauffer shared a funny backstory about the Swiss' birth. On Friday, August 7, 1981, Robert Federer, Roger's father, played a tennis tournament in doubles reaching the final. In the evening, he reached home to see how his pregnant wife Lynette was doing and then went out again to spend some time with friends. At 2:00 AM on August 8, the telephone rang and it was Lynette, who told him: "You'd better come back home." She was right: barely seven hours after, at 8:30 AM, Roger Federer was born. He weighed 3.710 grams and was 54 centimeters tall. "He had gigantic feet," recalled Lynette. They called him Roger because you can easily say it in English: Rotscher. In an interview, Federer recalled how he fell in love with Mirka at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. "We hung out for two weeks, then on the last day we kissed each other," the 37-year-old said.
In an interview with Punto de Break, Spaniard Jose Higueras commented on his working relationship with Federer. They worked together in 2008 and under Higueras's guidance, the Basel native won the Estoril Open. However, he lost plenty of finals on clay courts against Rafael Nadal. "I did not have Federer in his best shape," admitted Higueras. "He was recovering from mononucleosis, and back issues as well, so he was not in his best shape. When Roger signed a deal with me, in 2008, I think that it was not just because I could help him win the French Open. Sometimes people think it is like this, but Roger and I, (we) never spoke of it. I am sure that clay was on his mind, but that was the reason only partly. He believed I could help him win on all surfaces."
