With no ATP tournaments to earn the points at during the previous week, the updated ATP rankings list has delivered nothing new in terms of the positions at the top, leaving Novak Djokovic as the clear leader of the pack for the 246th week overall. The Serb had not played well at Indian Wells and Miami although he is still safe at the top, leading Rafael Nadal by 2345 points. Both players return to action next week in Monte Carlo where they will be the favorites to reach the final and write another chapter of their amazing rivalry that has been on for 13 years.
Alexander Zverev stays third and he is the highest-ranked player who will play this week, taking Marrakech wild card after a poor form so far in 2019, seeking more matches and preparation for Monte Carlo where he lost in the semis a year ago. Miami champion Roger Federer is safe in the fourth place, taking well-deserved rest before Madrid and leaving the players behind him to compete for that fifth spot on the list. Dominic Thiem, Kei Nishikori, Kevin Anderson, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Juan Martin del Potro and Miami finalist John Isner complete the top-10 group, with the American standing just 70 points clear of Marin Cilic who will try to pass him in Monte Carlo.
The 1996 generation is well-represented in the top-15 thanks to Borna Coric, Karen Khachanov and Daniil Medvedev. Another youngster Denis Shapovalov stands as the last player in the top-20 and there were no chances on the list in the first 60 positions, in the calm before the storm in Houston, Marrakech and Monte Carlo next week. Monterrey Challenger champion Alexander Bublik is back inside the top-100 for the first time since October 2017, conquering already the third title in 2019 to improve his ranking and crack the elite top-100 again.
