David Feherty is another figure who couldn’t resist the lucrative offer from LIV Golf, opting to follow in the footsteps of popular golfers. However, it can be said that he hasn’t betrayed the PGA Tour, having served as a golf analyst for CBS, NBC, and Golf Channel.

LIV Golf has ambitious plans and wanted Feherty, with his engaging personality, to be part of their project.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, he admitted that the decision wasn’t difficult, especially since LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman has been a friend for many years. Norman knew the key names he wanted on this tour and who to recruit. For golf fans, it's well-known that Norman has long harbored ideas about creating a new, global tour that would stand out in many ways.

“It wasn’t hard. It wasn’t difficult at all. Greg has been a friend of mine for nearly 40 years. I knew he had a vision because he’s had it so long. Hell, it was the late ‘80s where he was thinking about a world tour or spreading the game globally. He asked me and I said yes.”-Feherty told SI.

David Feherty, a charismatic figure who has played golf himself and is a well-known name in the sport, often entertains golf fans with his comments. The 66-year-old expressed that this is the job he wants to do, although he admits he has been forgetting some things lately. Feherty clearly feels happy to be part of Saudi backed Tour and believes in the promise of this project.

“I don’t know what the hell else I would do,” Feherty said. “I’m in halfway decent shape. Cognitively I’m still all right. I take my Prevagen (memory supplement). Although I keep forgetting to take it. Is that a bad sign? How can you forget to take a memory supplement? Jesus Christ."

Feherty expressed his enthusiasm for continuing in the golf broadcasting role, stating that he envisions himself doing it well into his 70s. At 66 years old, he reflected on his extensive experience in the sport, having spent 51 years in various capacities, starting as a caddie and turning professional at 17.

David Feherty didn’t miss the opportunity to mention Tiger Woods, the golf legend, and his early career stages. He stressed that there were moments when he struggled to fully describe what he was witnessing from Woods. Even as a teenager, Woods captivated golf fans with his talent and skills, hinting at his potential to become one of the biggest names in the sport, provided he remained dedicated and passionate. Feherty’s predictions, like those of many others, proved accurate, as Woods became arguably the greatest name in golf due to his remarkable achievements.

“Initially, I had difficulty describing what I was seeing. People would say to me: ‘I don’t know how he makes a swing with you so far up his a--.’ I kept saying, ‘This is so different than anything else I’ve ever seen. I don’t care what you think of me.’ This is like watching a creature from a different planet."

David Feherty on Tiger Woods' talent

Feherty reflected on Woods' incredible talent, recalling some impressive moments that really delighted him. One time, Woods was able to hit a tricky shot while balancing on one foot near a Christmas tree at Castle Pines, effortlessly cutting the ball over water and landing it just three feet from the hole. Feherty admitted that there were moments when Woods made him look foolish, despite his own high-level experience in the game. He pointed out that part of his job is predicting what players can do in different situations, but with Woods, he often found himself caught off guard, frequently thinking, “I didn’t see that coming.”

David Feherty expressed his enjoyment of the LIV experience, stressing how it has helped him grow as a person. He mentioned that he’s had positive experiences on other platforms as well. The seasoned commentator and former golfer reflected on moments in his career where he felt he could have done more or said more, acknowledging that everyone has those kinds of moments in life.

He emphasized his ability to read body language, which he considers a huge advantage. Addressing the criticisms that LIV Golf faces, Feherty argued that it features exceptional talent and remarkable golfers. He firmly believes that the rumors regarding LIV Golf’s quality are misguided and not reflective of the true caliber of the tour.

His future is obvious on this Tour, and the leaders of LIV Golf are very happy with the work Feherty  has done so far. They intend to hire many more names that will help them progress.
