The women's golf world is bowing to Nelly Korda. The queen of the green, in Jersey City, New Jersey, she conquered the Mizuho Americas Open with a score of 274 (-14) strokes. The American celebrated her 14th victory on the LPGA Tour (including two Majors), the sixth (in eight events played) of 2024, thus establishing herself as the first since 2013 (Inbee Park) to achieve this feat. Since 1980, seven players have achieved six or more wins in a single season: Betsy King (1989), Annika Sorenstam (1997, 2003), Karrie Webb (1999, 2000), Lorena Ochoa (2006, 2008), Inbee Park (2013), Yani Tseng (2011), and Beth Daniel (1990), the last American to win 7 tournaments in the same year.

At the Liberty National Golf Club (par 72), the 26-year-old from Bradenton, Florida, daughter and sister of golfing talent, thanks to three birdies in the last nine holes played, narrowly surpassed Australian Hannah Green, who finished 2nd with 275 (-13) with great regrets due to a bogey on the 72nd and final hole of the tournament. Third place with 278 (-10) for Thais Chanettee Wannasaen and Arija Jutanugarn. The same score was achieved by American Jennifer Kupcho and Australian Gabriela Ruffels, a former tennis player.
The season's latest triumph earned Korda $450,000 out of a total prize pool of $3,000,000. In 2024, the Tokyo Olympic gold medalist has already earned $2,943,708, proving herself to be a champion in earnings as well. However, in the US, Italian Roberta Liti missed the cut with a score of 145 (73 72, +1).
She turned professional in 2016, making her debut on the Symetra Tour, where she clinched her first victory at the Sioux Falls GreatLIFE Challenge with rounds of 68-67-69-66, securing the win over Thailand's Meechai. She kicked off 2021 by winning the Gainbridge LPGA in Orlando at the Lake Nona Golf & Country Club (par 72) with a total of 272 (-16) strokes, surpassing competitors Thompson and Ko (275, -13), as well as the South Korean world number one Ko (277, -11).
The following June, she won her first major at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, propelling her to the top of the world rankings – the first American to do so since Lewis in 2014 – and ending the long reign of South Korean golfers. Thanks to her position in the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings, she qualified for the individual tournament at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, joining fellow Americans Thompson, Kang, and her older sister Jessica.
On August 7, she clinched the Olympic gold medal at the Kasumigaseki Country Club in Kawagoe, finishing the event with 267 strokes, 17 under par. After sitting in second place following the first round with 67 strokes, -4 under par, she took the lead in the second round with a score of 62. In the final two rounds, she managed her lead, finishing both with 69 strokes, fending off challenges from Japan's Inami and New Zealand's Ko, who finished the event at 268 strokes.
