Former world No. 2 Anett Kontaveit took to social media to share some happy news as the Estonian tennis legend has announced pregnancy just less than a year after retiring from pro tennis.

Kontaveit, who turned 28 in December, walked away from pro tennis after last year's Wimbledon due to a chronic back issue. Since then, Kontaveit has been exploring some other interests and also enjoyed some quality - often posting about her trips and quality moments on Instagram.

On Thursday, Kontaveit had an important announcement to make as she had and her boyfriend Brent Lepistu are expecting their first child. In 2022 June, tennis fans heard for Lepistu for the first time when Kontaveit soft-launched her boyfriend on Instagram.

"New family member on the way," Kontaveit captioned her Instagram post.

Kontaveit left tennis with the belief that she made the right decision

In 2022, Kontaveit started battling a nagging back injury and ultimately she ended up finishing her season prematurely to focus on getting fully healthy for the 2023 season. But when the 2023 season started, Kontaveit's back issues continued.

And in June, Kontaveit shared some heartbreaking news as she announced she would be retiring after Wimbledon due to a a lumbar disc degeneration in her back.

Since Kontaveit was just 27 at the time of her retirement announcement, many fans but also fellow WTA colleagues were left heartbroken for the Estonian.

"There was a long period of reflection, weighing things up and trying different options to somehow make [my back] better. Nothing helped and I felt I could no longer give 100 percent of myself on the court," Kontaveit explained after retiring.

"Of course, there were many, many emotions throughout those months. I had degenerative changes to the disc of my lower back. It hurt, it still does if I stand up for too long or do other work. It hurt when the workload was too heavy, it hurt when the games were physical. I couldn't take more than an hour of playing."
