This event will have a unique format with the first two rounds played on different courses, the North and the South, while the third and fourth rounds will take place exclusively on the South course at the Torrey Pines Golf Course, a course built on the site of Camp Callan , a former US Army installation during World War II.

In the last two tournaments of the DP World Tour, Chicco Molinari achieved a fifth place in the Dubai Invitational and a cut in the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. On the top American circuit, he hasn't had a top-twenty finish since March 2023 (14th in the Arnold Palmer Invitational, which was also the last PGA Tour event he won in 2019). In the first 36 holes, Molinari will share the course with Americans Ryan Brehm and Adam Schenk.

Defending the title won in 2023 will be Californian Max Homa, while among the favorites there are names such as Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay, Keegan Bradley, Sepp Straka, Jason Day, and Sahith Theegala, all among the best 20 players in the world. The spotlight will also be on emerging European talents such as Ludvig Aberg from Sweden, Adrian Meronk from Poland (best player of the DP World Tour 2023), and Nicolai Hojgaard from Denmark.

Furthermore, there will be opportunities for players such as New Zealander Ryan Fox, Englishman Justin Rose, Japanese Hideki Matsuyama, American Will Zalatoris, Irishman Shane Lowry and South African Christiaan Bezuidenhout, the latter returning from second place in ' The American Express' surprisingly won by the young American amateur Nick Dunlap, although the latter will not participate in La Jolla this week.

The Farmers Insurance Open will offer a prize pool of $9,000,000, of which $1,620,000 will go to the winner.
