The next edition of the Masters in 2024 could set a record for participants, with one of the smallest fields in the history of the tournament. The official list of the 50 best golfers in the world who will be admitted to the prestigious Augusta National Golf Club will soon be announced. Eleven players are still uncertain about their participation, however placing themselves in this elite list. They will soon be informed of their admission to the most exclusive of the four Grand Slam tournaments. Among them are names such as Ryan Fox, Min Woo Lee, and Justin Rose. The total number of qualified players will then reach 93, including past winners who are not certain to return to the course this year. To date, there is talk of a participation of 77 players, which would make it one of the smallest fields since the 2018 and 2019 editions with 87 players.
Augusta, MastersWhile waiting for the full list of participants, fans will be eager to see if any French golfers will join the tournament. Victor Perez, who made waves in 2021, has every chance of winning his third Masters.
The winner of the Latin American Amateur Championship will not be announced until January, when he will be invited to Augusta. However, players who place among the potential winners of the previous 14 tournaments on the PGA Tour calendar will also qualify for the event. Players listed in the world top 50 at the end of Sunday April 7 will also be eligible, unless they are already exempt.
Currently, Frenchman Victor Perez is ranked 70th (as of December 17, 2023) and hopes to enter the list of participants thanks to his performances during the first meetings of the American circuit. The player from Tarbes is participating in three of the four events planned for the month of January.
Finally, if the event organizing committee considers that the field of participants is not sufficiently large, it may issue several special invitations. We are following developments at this premier golf event with interest and look forward to seeing who qualifies to play at Augusta.
