Serena Williams' childhood coach Rick Macci thinks Coco Gauff is "not Serena" but also highlighted that he believes the 19-year-old American can win multiple Grand Slams. The moment Gauff introduced herself to the tennis world by reaching the Wimbledon round-of-16 as a 15-year-old girl in 2019, she was labeled as "the next Serena." Four years later, Gauff is a Grand Slam champion and ranked at No 3 in the world. Gauff has undoubtedly achieved impressive success at a very young age but she is still 22 Grand Slam wins short of reaching Williams' 23 Grand Slams. “Coco, the best female athlete on the tour. She’s an Olympic sprinter with a racket in her hand. The forehand’s a little dodgy. I know she kinda covered it up during the summer, but there’s a little bump there. But when you are confident, as you know, you don’t see it as much. But maybe, when you have the people change the pace, you’re not as confident. So, she’s not Serena, but she can win some Grand Slams,” Macci said on the Match Point Canada podcast.
Gauff paid tribute to the Williams sisters after her US Open winAfter beating Aryna Sabalenka in the US Open final, Gauff paid a very special tribute to her idols, Serena and Venus Williams. In her tribute, Gauff said watching the Williams sisters as a kid made her believe she could also one day be a pro tennis player and achieve great success on the biggest stage. Also, one of the best things about Gauff's US Open win was the fact that it came exactly a year after Serena's retirement at Flushing Meadows. After accomplishing her goal of becoming a Grand Slam champion, Gauff underlined that she is hungry for more Major success. In January, Gauff will be looking to win back-to-back Grand Slam titles and lift her first Australian Open title.
