Nick Kyrgios casts doubt over his Australian Open participation in latest update

Nick Kyrgios highlighted he is doing everything in his power to return to action soon but his latest revelation also cast doubt over his Australian Open participation. On Wednesday, Kyrgios made his broadcasting debut as he provided his expertise during Tennis Channel's coverage of the ATP Finals match between Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev. Kyrgios, who played just one match this due to knee and wrist issues, revealed in the studio that he needs a couple of more weeks before a splint from his serving forearm can be removed. “After last year, I had such a great year, and I’m so hungry to get back out there. So I’m doing everything I can to get back out there. Obviously, you know how injuries are every day, just doing the rehab, doing the gym work. But to be here and being able to watch the match we’re about to watch (between Zverev and Daniil Medvedev) makes me more hungry to get out there," Kyrgios said on Tennis Channel.

Kyrgios inspired by Zverev

During the 2022 French Open semifinal against Rafael Nadal, Zverev tore several ankle ligaments in a horrifying moment. After missing the entire second half of the 2022 season, Zverev made a successful return to action in 2023. This year, Zverev won two ATP titles - reached the French Open semifinal - and also returned to the top-10 in the world. Kyrgios sees Zverev as an example that it is possible to make a strong return after a serious injury and a lengthy absence. “The stars have to align a little bit. And with Zverev, he’s an incredibly hard worker. That’s his reputation. He ticks all the boxes and, if someone like that can come back from an injury like that, I think that’s what I have to draw inspiration from for sure," Kyrgios said.
