Jannik Sinner, 22, admits he regrets never clashing against Roger Federer in an official tennis match. Sinner, who is 22 years old, started playing the ATP level events in 2019 and by 2020 he was a regular participant of the main-level events. But just when Sinner established himself as a regular participant in the main-level events, Federer started again dealing with knee injuries in early 2020. Federer ended up playing five more tournaments before retiring and Sinner never got a chance to meet the Swiss tennis icon. “I've had luck in life, but I missed (playing against) Federer. I accept it, it's part of the game. Official matches are no longer possible, maybe in the future we will face off in an exhibition. But I would not change. I am happy to be a tennis player of this time, the new generation offers different styles, characters, personalities," Sinner told Corriere della Sera.
Sinner on what makes Novak Djokovic such a difficult opponentSinner, who is enjoying a career-high ranking of No 4 in the world, is set for his second ATP Finals appearance. In Green Group, Sinner will be battling against Djokovic, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Holger Rune. After landing in the same group as Djokovic, Sinner is guaranteed to meet the Serb at least once in Turin. Against the Serb, the Italian has zero wins and three losses. Sinner was the closest to beating Djokovic at 2022 Wimbledon, when he was up by two sets before the world No 1 came back to win in five sets. "Because you find yourself in front of someone who has won 24 Slams, three out of four this year alone. In terms of results, the best this sport has ever had," Sinner explained why facing Djokovic is such a difficult task. It remains to be seen if Sinner can clinch his first win over Djokovic in Turin.
