Coach Rick Macci believes Venus Williams' hard-working habits also pushed Serena Williams to work so hard on her game as a kid. Macci, 68, one day received a call from Richard Williams, who claimed to have two unbelievably talented daughters. Macci accepted to coach the Williams sisters and today he is widely credited for the early development of the now two all-time greats. For four years, Macci was working regularly with the Williams sisters on the practice court. Venus is 15 months older than Serena and Macci believes Venus was "the best role model ever" Serena could have. "Serena Williams worked so hard as a kid because Venus Williams worked even harder. That GOLD NUGGET alone made her feel like she was hardly working. VEE was the best role model ever for baby goat and two RARE GEMS LIKE NO OTHER," Macci wrote on X.

Venus, 43, and 42-year-old Serena have always been very close and there has never been anything that could have ruined their outstanding relationship. Today, Venus is still listed as an active player while Serena has been retired for 14 months now. Serena's pro tennis days are over but she is still following her older sister. This past summer, Venus beat world No 16 Veronika Kudermetova 6-4 7-5 in her Cincinnati opener. For Venus, it was her first top-20 win since 2019. Later, Venus revealed that Serena was one of the first to message her. "She texted me after. She had a lot of encouraging words to say. She just is encouraging me to, you know, just to rise to be my best, because she believes in me and she knows what I have inside of me. It's nice to have obviously her, because she knows and she knows what position I'm in and what it's like to be in this position. She knows what it's like to have something to give, but, like, you just need that opportunity. So, it's nice that she believes in me,” Venus revealed after her Cincinnati win over Kudermetova.
