Here are the events not to be missed from 14 to 20 August.
Golf, eventsPGA Tour – BMW Championship
The FedEx Cup Playoffs kicked off last week and the second stage, the BMW Championship, will take place from 17 to 20 August. The game will be played at Olympia Fields Country Club on the North Course just outside of Chicago, a big comeback for the PGA Tour after the 2020 playoffs.
This week there will be a field of 50 players all aiming to clinch their spot for East Lake.
Last time the BMW Championship was held at Olympia Fields, Jon Rahm took the title. Thanks to his four wins of the season, Jon Rahm remains number 1 in the FedEx Cup standings and Scottie Scheffler is second by just 148 points.
Patrick Cantlay, the two-time defending champion of the BMW Championship, comes into this week in top form after losing in the playoffs to Lucas Glover last week. Cantlay will be looking to make PGA Tour history with a hat-trick at the BMW Championship.
Lucas Glover who will be looking for a three-straight PGA Tour win after capturing both the Wyndham Championship and the FedEx Cup St. Jude Championship is currently in fourth place in the FedEx Cup standings. Sunday's victory put him on a big leap forward of the initial position, 49th.
The top three in the FedEx Cup standings remain unchanged for the second leg of the Playoffs, with Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy. McIlroy finished third at Memphis, while Scheffler took 31st and Rahm 37th.
Two golfers made the top 50 after weekend results: Cam Davis 45th and Hideki Matsuyama 47th.
The last three golfers to earn tickets to Olympia Fields were 48th Tom Hoge, 49th Harris English and 50th Patrick Rodgers.
Olympia Fields Country Club just outside of Chicago is a Par 70. The historic facility hosted four men's Majors and the KPMG Women's PGA Championship in 2017. This year it is once again the course chosen to contest the BMW Championship for the second time.
The North Course, where the BMW Championship will take place, was designed by Willie Park Jr and features eight holes with water and 91 bunkers.
Players will compete for a $20,000,000 prize pool and the winner will earn 2,000 points in the FedEx Cup.
DP World Tour, LPGA and LET – ISPS HANDA World Invitational presented by AVIV Clinics From 17 to 20 August, the ISPS HANDA World Invitational presented by AVIV Clinics will take place in Northern Ireland. The event will take place at Galgorm Golf Club and Castlerock Golf Club.
The ISPS HANDA World Invitational presented by AVIV Clinics sees some of the best players in the men's and women's sector compete on the same courts, at the same time. This tournament is a tri-sanctioned tournament between the DP World Tour, LPGA Tour and the Ladies European Tour. This is the third year the tournament has been part of the DP World Tour calendar, after its inaugural edition was sanctioned by the European Challenge Tour in 2019.
In Northern Ireland, the men's and women's tournaments will take place simultaneously at Galgorm and Castlerock Golf Clubs, located in Co. Londonderry. Each player will play one round of each course over the first two days, but after the cut, it will be played at Galgorm Golf Club.
Last year, Ewen Ferguson captured his second DP World Tour title of the 2022 season. Ferguson, who previously won the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, finished 17th on the DP World Tour leaderboard. This year, the 27-year-old has recorded four top tens so far and captured his Major Championship at the 151st Royal Liverpool Open last month.
Sweden's Maja Stark took the women's title last year but will not be in attendance this week, while Ireland's Leona Maguire, Denmark's Emily Kristine Pedersen and England's Georgia Hall will all be on court just days after the AIG Women's Open .
In the men's field the Italians in the field will be: Matteo Manassero, Renato Paratore, Lorenzo Scalise and Gregorio De Leo.
The Italian players, however, will be: Alessandra Fanali and Clara Manzalini.
