Tomas Berdych gives take on if anyone can stop Novak Djokovic at Wimbleedon

Tomas Berdych thinks only Novak Djokovic can stop himself from winning this year's Wimbledon title. Djokovic, a seven-time Wimbledon champion, entered this year's Wimbledon as the absolute No 1 favorite for the title. Not only that Djokovic is the No 1 favorite to win Wimbledon, some are even going as far as describing the Serb as "the heaviest Wimbledon favorite in a long time." When asked who is the biggest threat to Djokovic's Wimbledon chances, 2010 Wimbledon finalist Berdych offered a candid answer. 

"I would definitely say – only himself. If he’s able to stay calm and focused – and he’s super strong in that department – then I think he is going to win the title," Berdych told Tennis Majors.

Berdych on if he is surprised by Djokovic's success 

Berdych, a former world No 4, retired from pro tennis in 2019. After Berdych's retirement, the Big Three continued to enjoy Grand Slam success - particularly Novak Djokovic, who is now a record 23-time Grand Slam champion. Berdych was asked when he was retiring if he expected Djokovic to win more Grand Slams.

"Honestly, yes. Seeing those players around, I’ve been a part of everything for many years – I played each of them a minimum of 20 times (head-to-head 3-25 versus Djokovic, 4-20 versus Nadal and 6-20 versus Federer) – so I knew how good they are. I am not surprised that Novak is still in shape and still chasing Slam history. It’s nice that he’s still around, I wish him all the best," Berdych said.

After beating Casper Ruud in the French Open final, Djokovic moved past Nadal on the all-time Grand Slam record list. For Djokovic, becoming the sole owner of the all-time Grand Slam record was a dream come true. But moments after winning his 23rd Grand Slam title, Djokovic warned his rivals he was hungry for more success on the biggest stage.
