Gael Monfils says his wife Elina Svitolina's Wimbledon run left him feeling "proud" and "inspired." Svitolina, who gave birth to daughter Skai in October, was out for 13 months before returning to tennis in April. In her first two Grand Slam tournaments back, Svitolina heavily impressed as she made the French Open quarterfinal before reaching the semifinal at Wimbledon. Svitolina's Wimbledon run was particularly impressive as the Ukrainian defeated world No 1 Iga Swiatek en route to reaching her second semifinal at The Championships. While Svitolina was competing at Wimbledon, Monfils stayed home to take care of his wrist injury and daughter Skai.

Monfils on Svitolina: Proud, inspired of my wife

“Just proud of my wife, to be honest. How much work she has put in to be at that level. How much discipline she had. I was amazed by her strength, mentally, in some matches, to turn them around and then come back for her next match – I was proud and inspired. This is why I feel like a champion right now," Monfils told Tennis Majors.

In three months, little Skai will celebrate her first birthday. So far, Monfils and Svitolina have been managing well their parenting duties. This week, Monfils is competing at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) in Los Angeles and Svitolina will be spending more time with Skai.

“She’s doing good, she’s growing up quite fast, actually. You are at home, but it’s a privilege to spend quality time as well, at home with your child. It can never be too much. It’s going to be a few weeks without her and it’s gonna be tough, but I feel like we will have more time in a few weeks. It has been an amazing month for me, watching my wife do fantastic, and I have had quality time with my daughter as well, so you know I’m just full of energy and really want to do well during this tour," Monfils said.
