Carlos Alcaraz says he does not consider himself "the chosen one," even after being the one who managed to beat Novak Djokovic in a Wimbledon final. Alcaraz, 20, is a two-time Grand Slam champion - has five Masters titles in his collection - he is ranked at No 1 in the world. Last Sunday, Alcaraz edged out Djokovic 1-6 7-6 (6) 6-1 3-6 6-4 in the Wimbledon final to lift his second Grand Slam title after winning last year's US Open. Prior to the 2023 Wimbledon final, Djokovic was 7/8 in his finals at The Championships and he was also without a loss at The All England Club since 2017. Not many players have managed to beat Djokovic in a Grand Slam final - let alone in a Wimbledon final - but Alcaraz did manage to do so.
Alcaraz on if he is the chosen one after beating Djokovic at Wimbledon"I’ll be honest, I don’t consider myself the chosen one. That is achieved simply through hard work, there are no secrets. In this world there are no secrets, but everything is achieved day by day through perseverance and effort. Details make the difference. Many great athletes or legends in all fields say it: the details are what make the difference, and in the end pursuing your dream, being clear that you are going to make it come true it and trusting that you are going to make it come true it is what makes the difference and what allows you to reach the goals you set for yourself. I am not a chosen one, but I have simply pursued my dream and believed in myself at all times. Obviously, behind all of this there is a lot, a lot of work," Alcaraz told El Pais.
After a great 2022 season, Alcaraz continued his remarkable success in 2023. In just over a month, Alcaraz will try to win the final Grand Slam of the season in New York and successfully defend his US Open title.
