Carlos Alcaraz says he is not surprised by his astonishing results at a very young age as he is certain that his success isn't a coincidence. Alcaraz, who turned 20 in May, has already accomplished far more than many players accomplish throughout their entire careers. So far, Alcaraz has a Grand Slam title - four Masters titles - he is currently ranked at No 1 in the world.
"Well, I'm not surprised honestly 'cause I know my skills. I know what I'm capable of. Is something that I work really hard to be in that position, to be what I am right now. Honestly, I'm not surprised at all," Alcaraz said.
Alcaraz on a course for a deep Wimbledon runAfter winning his first grass title at the Queen's Club, Alcaraz has been through to the Wimbledon round-of-16. On Saturday, Alcaraz defeated Nicolas Jarry 6-3 6-7 (6) 6-3 7-5. Although Alcaraz was able to win in four sets, it definitely wasn't an easy match for the Spaniard. In the fourth set, Jarry had a 3-0 lead and two consecutive break points in the fourth game to go up by a double break - but failed to do so. Down by a break, Alcaraz responded by claiming breaks in the seventh and 11th games to overturn the deficit and escape with a four-set win. After the match, Alcaraz admitted it wasn't an easy match and spoke highly of Jarry.
"It was really, really tough. Nico is a really good player and he played really well. He deserves to be at the top and I am just really happy with the level I played. I had to stay focused. I knew that I would have my chances. It was really, really close. The key is to believe and stay focused the whole time," Alcaraz reflected.
Alcaraz plays against Matteo Berrettini in the Wimbledon round-of-16. It remains to be seen if Alcaraz's second Grand Slam title can come at The Championships.
