Great Britain's Ryan Peniston revealed he nearly crashed his car after being told he drew Andy Murray in the Wimbledon first round.
Peniston, ranked at No 267 in the world, is set to make his second Wimbledon main draw appearance after being handed a wildcard by the tournament organizers.
On Friday, 27-year-old Peniston learned he would be playing two-time Wimbledon champion in his opener at The Championships.
Peniston, who is one of the most inspiring stories in tennis after beating cancer and then becoming a pro tennis player, used to look up to Murray.
During The Battle of the Brits - an exhibition that was taking place in 2020 during the pandemic - Peniston got to know Murray for the first time.
Now, Peniston is set for the biggest match of his career as he is scheduled to play at Wimbledon one of the greatest British tennis players.
Peniston on drawing Murray at Wimbledon“I was literally just driving from my girlfriends. And I had a text from my coach Mark (Taylor) and it just said: “Andy!!!” Yeah, it's pretty cool. I almost crashed! I was in Wandsworth and then (LTA media chief) John (Dolan) messaged me and asked me to come in and I was like ‘yeah, I'll just change and go left and go straight to Wimbledon. I know Andy pretty well. I think since the Battle of the Brits, I didn't really know him before. Since then we've become friends. And yeah, we've practiced quite a lot together. He’s a good guy. Definitely. I grew up watching him especially here as well. So it's pretty special. I actually remember when he won it, I was playing in Ilkley - I think it was a Futures - they had it up on the big screen. I remember watching it and everyone was crowded around and it was a special moment," Peniston said, via Express-Sport.
