Ryan Peniston, 27, says he has "a different perspective on life than other tennis players" as his big goal is to inspire after beating cancer and fulfilling a kid's dream of becoming a tennis pro and competing at Wimbledon.
When Peniston was just one-year-old, he was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma - a soft tissue cancer that usually attacks children younger than 10 years old.
After eight months in the hospital - having surgery to remove the tumor and then undergoing chemotherapy sessions - Peniston won his battle with cancer.
"I think I do have a different perspective on life than other tennis players because of what I've been through. My parents must have gone through hell. I look back and think how lucky I am to have a second chance at life. Thanks to a lot of amazing people, doctors and nurses, I'm able to sit here and the older I've got, the more I've appreciated what they did for me," Peniston told BBC Look East.
Peniston wants to inspire: I'm playing for others in a similar positionAs a kid, Peniston dreamed of one day competing at The All England Club.
Last year, Peniston made his main draw debut at Wimbledon.
This year, world No 267 Peniston is set to play again after being granted a main draw wildcard into The Championships.
"Walking out at Wimbledon and fulfilling a lifelong dream feels special and it doesn't feel real. I'm waiting for someone to pinch me and wake me up. But I feel I'm not just playing for myself. I'm playing for people who are going through similar things and to give them hope, for anyone going through those troubles. If I can give them hope or inspiration for one second, it would mean a lot to me," Peniston said.
In his Wimbledon main draw debut last year, Peniston beat Henri Laaksonen before losing to Henri Laaksonen in the second round.
