The University of Virginia men's tennis team beats Kentucky to qualify for the semifinals of the NCAA Championships.

Storms forced a suspension of play Thursday night before any of the singles matches could be completed at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida. The result was a 4-2 victory that sent Virginia to the NCAA semifinals for the 12th time in the last 16 tournaments.

UVA, who has a 20-game winning streak, will play top seed Texas at noon today in Orlando. Second seed TCU will play third seed Ohio State in the other semifinal.

Kentucky finished the season at 27-5. The Wildcats beat Virginia 4-3 in Charlottesville on Feb. 3 and built momentum after winning the doubles point Thursday night, but the Hoos felt confident when play was suspended, then won yesterday to make it to the semifinals.

UVA head coach Andres Pedros said after the victory: "They know it's part of the experience to go all the way to a national championship. Most likely you'll have to miss the doubles point and go back to singles at least once to reach the final. So it's just one part of the process and to be a great team you have to be able to bounce back from losing a double point. We felt we were in a good position.

We got off to a good start on most pitches and he gave us a look at their singles and how they were going to play against us. So I think we had a pretty good idea of what we needed to do today to get four points in singles and finally, after a lot of ups and downs and a lot of challenges, which is the essence of this tournament, we got those four points."
