University of Georgia had a very positive Tuesday at the NCAA Women's Singles Championship, at the USTA National Campus.
The day began with No. 4 seed Dasha Vidmanova competing against No. 51 Julia Fliegner of Michigan. She put in a dominant performance, outscoring Fliegner in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. Vidmanova, with a 33-6 overall record and 17 ranked wins, will face USC's Maddy Sieg on Wednesday, May 24, in the round of 16.
In the mid-morning game, No. 63 Mell Reasco faced No. 29 Alexandra Yepifanova of Stanford. Though she jumped out to lead 5-1 in the first set, Reasco was defeated by Yepifanova 7-6(3), 6-3. Reasco's sophomore campaign capped off with a 24-7 overall record and eight ranked wins.
In the afternoon, No. 3 seed Ma competed against No. 38 Anika Yarlagadda of North Carolina. After losing a closely contested first set 7-6, Ma won the second set 6-1. The senior would go on to win the game 6-7, 6-1, 7-5. But with a 32-7 overall record and 16 ranked wins, she will face the winner of the game between Savannah Broadus (Pepperdine) and Angelica Blake (Stanford) in the round of 16 today.
