Aryna Sabalenka reveals she has been playing with "more freedom" since becoming a Grand Slam champion and noted winning titles remains her top priority.
Sabalenka, 25, made her big Grand Slam breakthrough after beating Elena Rybakina in this year's Australian Open final.
Now that Sabalenka is a Grand Slam champion, some think the Belarusian's top priority is to replace Iga Swiatek at the world No 1 spot.
Sabalenka, who is currently ranked at No 2 in the world, insists she is prioritizing winning titles over the world No 1 ranking.
However, Sabalenka highlighted she wants the world No 1 spot and noted that will likely happen if she keeps winning.
Sabalenka on her mindset now and goals“I always wanted to win as many titles as possible during my career. So, if I keep thinking that way and focusing on myself then there's always going to be a chance to become No. 1. It's not my priority goal, but this is something I really want to see happen in the future. It's a different approach right now, before I was thinking like 'come on, you need to get at least one Grand Slam in your career.' But right now, I have this Grand Slam and can play with more freedom, you don't think about being a top player without a Grand Slam. You just think about your game and wanting to bring your best game every time you're out on court. It's a different approach right now," Sabalenka told Eurosport.
This week, Sabalenka is kicking off her eighth tournament of the season in Rome.
In the seven tournaments played so far, Sabalenka made five finals.
In those five finals, Sabalenka captured three titles - the Belarusian won the Adelaide International, Australian Open and Madrid Open.
In Indian Wells and Stuttgart, Sabalenka ended as runner-up.
It remains to be seen how well can Sabalenka do in Rome.
