Dominic Thiem has announced that he is ending his partnership with coach Nicolas Massu.

Thiem, 29, and former Chilean tennis star Massu started working in 2019 February.

Shortly after hiring Massu, Thiem became a Masters champion in 2019 Indian Wells.

In 2020, Massu also guided Thiem to his first Grand Slam title at the US Open.

But unfortunately, the last two years haven't been easy for Thiem, who is just 3-8 at the start of the 2023 season.

Thiem announces split with Massu

"What an incredible journey. It all started in early 2019 - you came along with your incredible energy and extreme love for the sport. That's how we won the US Open and Indian Wells. But we also reached the finals of the Australian Open, the French Open, and twice at the Nitto ATP Finals. I think that shows we're an incredible team. But unfortunately, everything has an end and this end came now. We have decided together that we will go different ways starting next week. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this incredible and beautiful time Nico. I wish you only the best and our friendship will last forever," Thiem announced on Instagram.

This week in Estoril, Thiem clinched back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

After clinching consecutive wins over Sebastian Ofner and Ben Shelton, Thiem suffered a 6-1 6-4 defeat to Quentin Halys in the Estoril quarterfinal.

Even though it was a positive result for Thiem, he admitted that he was still inconsistent.

“I’m still very inconsistent. Serve wasn’t here today. It’s still a positive week for me, first time in 7 months that I win back-to-back matches, which isn’t obviously a great stat," Thiem said after exiting Estoril.

Thiem is now set to compete at the Monte Carlo Masters.

In his Monte Carlo opener, Thiem plays against Richard Gasquet.
