Dominic Thiem says he still believes he can contend for Grand Slam titles.
Thiem, 29, is a four-time Grand Slam finalist and his lone Grand Slam triumph came at the 2020 US Open.
In 2021 June, Thiem suffered a wrist injury that sidelined him for the next 10 months.
Thiem, a former world No 3, is now the 99th-ranked player in the world and he is far from the game that was once making him a legit Grand Slam contender.
"Yes, I believe. I'm still not there, but that's the reason I'm still playing. To be competitive once again. When I look at the Grand Slam tournaments, now at the Australian Open, it's nice to see that I was there once. I played finals, against the biggest players, and that's also a big motivation to go back there one more time. We'll see if I can do it," Thiem told dnevnik.hr.

During that period, Thiem went 8-3 in his matches against the Big Three.
"Yes, first of all, it helped me a lot to play so many matches against such players, because with each match you gain experience, you learn better how to play against them and I had a lot of confidence. I went into all matches against them with 100% belief that they can win. And that helped a lot. I was at the top of my game at the time and it was a great feeling to go out on the court and know you could beat anyone, even those three legends. Those are good memories, it was a good time and I hope I can go back there one more time," Thiem reflected.
At the start of the 2023 season, Thiem was beaten by Andrey Rublev in the Australian Open first round.
It remains to be seen if Thiem can do better at the French Open.
