Serbia Open tournament director Djordje Djokovic has revealed that the tournament is in negotiations with Nick Kyrgios to bring the Australian to this year's tournament.
Between April 17-23, the Serbia Open will be taking place in Banja Luka.
The Serbia Open's regular venue is undergoing changes to the tournament is moving from Belgrade to Banja Luka for one year.
"We are in negotiations. I am not allowed to reveal names, but Kyrgios is one of the tennis players with whom we are in negotiations. We all know that clay is not his favorite surface, but this year he decided to play tournaments on the slower surface as well, so we hope for an agreement," Djordje Djokovic revealed.
Djordje Djokovic: Kyrgios is a very honest personIn the past, Kyrgios and Novak Djokovic were all but close friends.
But after Kyrgios publicly supported Djokovic during the Australia visa saga, their relationship completely changed for the better.
"He is a very honest person. Everything that happened with Novak before, even though we didn't like it, was very honest. He showed himself to be the man when Novak needed it the most. He stood up among his people and country and supported Djokovic and I'm sure that none of us will ever forget it," Djordje Djokovic recalled.
Meanwhile, Kyrgios and Djokovic have built a very good relationship.
In January, Kyrgios and Djokovic played an exhibition match at Rod Laver Arena, with all the proceeds going to charity.
Last year, Djokovic admitted that Kyrgios' support during the infamous Australia visa saga "pleasantly surprised him."
“Nick Kyrgios surprised me pleasantly, I thanked him and all of the others who stood up for me, Alize Cornet for instance. I received a lot of messages privately from some of the players, but they didn’t want to speak publicly. I understand it, the situation was complicated," Djokovic said last year.
It remains to be seen if Kyrgios will join Djokovic at the Serbia Open.
