The 22-year-old Sebastian Korda gave everything in the Adelaide 1 final against Novak Djokovic. The American competed in his fifth ATP final and experienced the fourth loss. Korda wasted a match point in a 6-7, 7-6, 6-4 defeat, keeping Djokovic on the court for over three hours but finishing runner-up. As was expected, Sebastian will not play the following week's Adelaide 2 event, having enough challenges ahead of the Australian Open. Korda should have faced Emil Ruusuvuori in the opening round but withdrew following Sunday's marathon to preserve energy for the Australian Open.

Sebastian and Novak pushed each other to the limits, with only three breaks in the entire clash. Novak faced only two break points, which was almost enough to cost him the title. He fended off that match point in the second set's closing stages and delivered a late break in the decider to emerge at the top and claim his 92nd ATP title. They needed an hour and 13 minutes to complete the opening set, with chances for both to clinch it. Korda broke Djokovic in the ninth game and served for the set. He wasted three set points at 5-4, keeping Novak in contention.
