The PGA Tour has released some players from their obligations so that they can play next month in Jeddah the Saudi International, the inaugural event of the Asian Tour and financed like the LIV, by the Saudi Public Investment Fund saudi.

Saudi International, statement

Without knowing more about the identity of the players who applied for authorization, several members of the American circuit obtained the possibility of aligning themselves in the Saudi International at the Royal Greens Golf and Country Club.

Already last year, the "release" of the players caused a lot of ink to flow as the first rumors of a departure from the LIV began to circulate. Today with the open war between the two circuits, the position of the PGA Tour has something to question.

Should this be seen as an attempt at appeasement, or outright an outstretched hand in the direction of "Golf Saudi" while Greg Norman's LIV is struggling to recruit new players and find an agreement with TV channels? The future will tell.

This tournament, which was originally on the European Tour calendar, has now moved to the Asian Tour flag since the arrival of LIV Golf and offers significant starting bonuses to attract the best players on the planet.

As announced a few days ago, the winner of The Open, Cameron Smith will be one of the headliners but other big names are expected on the shores of the Red Sea for the 5th edition.

The February 2-5 tournament dates coincide with those of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am on the PGA Tour.

It was Golf Channel reporter Rex Hoggard, who revealed the information about the permission granted to the players but he could not specify the exact number of players or the names.

Won by Dustin Johnson (2019, 2021), Graeme McDowell (2020), the event smiled on Harold Varner III last year after a “monstrous” putt at 18.

The three former winners are now playing on the dissident circuit.

In 2022 Victor Perez, Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry, Xander Schauffele, Tony Finau (photo), Tyrrell Hatton and Tom Kim took part.
