Iga Swiatek: I'm going to try to kind of cut off everything that happened last year

Iga Swiatek says it is time for her to put her 2022 success behind her and focus on achieving great things in 2023. 

Swiatek, ranked at No 1 in the world, enjoyed an outstanding 2022 season.

Last season, Swiatek won eight of her nine finals and there was a period during which she went on a 37-game winning streak.

Swiatek, now a three-time Grand Slam champion, is now focused on new victories. 

"I'm going to try to kind of cut off everything that happened last year and just focus on the future, because I feel like I can take a lot of experience from these tournaments last year. I don't want to really hold on to that too much, because I want to go forward and kind of focus on my next goals," Swiatek said. 

Swiatek tipped to continue her dominance

There is a big gap point between Swiatek and world No 2 Ons Jabeur.

Swiatek dominantly holds the top spot with 11,085 points, while Jabeur has 5,055 points.

Swiatek may be comfortably holding the top spot but the fact is that she will have lots of points to defend throughout the 2023 season.

However, tennis great Martina Navratilova believes Swiatek will stay ranked No 1 throughout 2023. 

"I do, I do. I don’t see anybody knocking her off -- because she’s so consistent. She wins majors -- and she’s consistent. Usually, it’s one or the other. She’s got them both going on at the same time. I think to see if she’s making any changes, adding to her game again. This past year, she made more forays to the net, and it made a big difference," Navratilova told the WTA Tour website. 

Meanwhile, Swiatek is starting her 2023 season at the inaugural United Cup.

After the United Cup, Swiatek also intends to compete at the Adelaide International 2.

Then, Swiatek will try to win her first Australian Open title.
